Cataract
A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye – usually age-related. Vision gradually becomes duller, as if seen through a veil.

Typical symptoms
- Blurred or dull vision, colours appear paler
- Increasing sensitivity to glare, e.g. when driving at night
- Frequently changing spectacle prescriptions
The clouding usually develops slowly over years – many people do not notice it at first at all.
How we examine
We make the diagnosis at the slit lamp; in addition we check visual acuity and the retina in order to rule out other causes.
How we treat
The only effective treatment is surgery with the implantation of an artificial lens – as an outpatient in our Stadtmitte surgery centre.
