Treatment
Preventive eye examinations
Regular monitoring of eye pressure, retina and visual acuity.

What is this about?
Many eye conditions – glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinal changes – begin unnoticed. Preventive care means finding them before they permanently impair your vision.
Glaucoma screening
Glaucoma progresses for years without symptoms – noticeable visual field loss only develops once optic nerve fibres have already been lost. We measure intraocular pressure, assess the optic disc and, if anything is abnormal, add visual field testing and OCT. This makes any change objectively comparable over the years.
Retinal and macular checks
Assessment of the retina and – if required, with OCT – of the macula. Useful with the first signs of macular degeneration, distorted vision or a family history, so that treatable wet AMD does not go unnoticed.
Screening in diabetes
Diabetes can damage the fine retinal vessels, for a long time without symptoms. Regular retinal checks – usually with dilated pupils – are therefore part of diabetes care. If macular oedema is suspected we add OCT, and angiography for vascular questions.
With high myopia
Strongly short-sighted eyes are larger and the retina is stretched thinner. This increases the risk of retinal holes, retinal detachment and macular changes. We therefore examine the entire retina including the peripheral areas.
With a family history
If glaucoma, macular degeneration or retinal detachment run in your family, an examination makes sense before symptoms appear – often earlier than otherwise recommended.
Check-ups for children
A lazy eye and squint can only be treated well during childhood. An appointment makes sense with a visible squint, screwing up one eye or reading very close up – and, with a family history, even without anything obvious.
Why come even without symptoms?
Because the brain compensates for early losses for a long time and the second eye fills in missing areas. What has already been lost at the optic nerve or macula cannot be brought back – but detected early, it can often be slowed. We set the appropriate examination intervals individually, based on your findings and risk profile.
What does preventive care cost?
Some early-detection examinations are self-pay services if there is no clinical suspicion. We tell you beforehand what is useful and what it costs – you decide without pressure.
Risks & limits – said openly
Preventive examinations carry little risk. If your pupils are dilated, you must not drive yourself for several hours afterwards.
