Treatment

Medical laser treatments

For example in secondary cataract, retinal holes or raised intraocular pressure.

What is this about?

Medical lasers treat specific structures inside the eye – as an outpatient, without an incision and usually within a few minutes. They are not “laser eye surgery to get rid of glasses”, but therapy for specific conditions.

Typical applications

Secondary cataract after a cataract operation (YAG capsulotomy), sealing retinal holes to prevent a retinal detachment, and pressure-lowering laser procedures in glaucoma.

SLT – selective laser trabeculoplasty

In glaucoma, SLT lowers intraocular pressure by improving the natural drainage of aqueous humour through the trabecular meshwork – using very low-energy pulses and without scarring the tissue. It can be used as a first measure or when drops are not working sufficiently, only takes effect over weeks and can as a rule be repeated. Afterwards you may only change your eye drops on medical instruction. All details are on our dedicated SLT page.

How does the treatment work?

After anaesthetic drops you sit at a device just as you would for a normal examination. The treatment is as a rule not very demanding; afterwards your vision may be blurred for a few hours.

What matters afterwards?

Please do not drive yourself on the day of treatment. Attend your monitoring appointments, even if you have no symptoms.

Risks & limits – said openly

Depending on the procedure, a temporary rise in pressure, glare or irritation can occur. We discuss the risks relevant to your procedure beforehand.

We offer this treatment in Stadtmitte, Styrum . Appointments can only be booked at these locations.
